Attorney General Announces Proposed Regulations for Remote Participation in Open Meetings

On June 29, 2011, the Attorney General announced proposed regulations authorizing remote participation in public meetings. If adopted, these regulations would allow local public bodies to authorize remote participation under certain circumstances where physical attendance is unreasonably difficult.

The AG's Office is currently seeking comment on the proposed regulations. Comments may be made in writing prior to September 6, 2011. A public hearing will be held on the proposed regulations pursuant to G.L. c. 30A, s.2. The hearing will be held at One Ashburton Place, 21st Floor, Boston, Mass., on September 6, 2011.

Until the regulations are finalized, remote participation remains illegal.
